QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

More clarity.
Before you decide.

Practical answers about scope, controls, documentation and preparation for the four schemes.

GMP+

Is GMP+ compulsory for every feed business?

Certification is a voluntary supply-chain tool and may be required by customers or contracts. It does not replace an operator’s legal obligations. The decision should follow an assessment of products, activities and destination markets. Before starting, we review customer requirements, process descriptions and existing certificates to define a suitable scope and avoid accidentally excluding relevant activities.

Does a trader without storage need a HACCP system?

Having no warehouse does not remove supply-chain risks. The analysis should be proportionate to activities actually controlled: sourcing, specifications, hazard information, arranged transport and exception handling. It should not invent production steps that do not exist. It should explain how unsafe purchases or deliveries are prevented and which evidence demonstrates that controls work.

How are previous vehicle loads assessed?

Start with the identified compartment and documented relevant load history, checking product identity, classification and required cleaning. Review the cleaning actually performed and the compartment inspection too. If the history is incomplete or the product cannot be identified reliably, a verbal assurance is insufficient. The procedure should explain who blocks loading, which information must be obtained and how subsequent use is authorised.

Can we use template documentation?

Yes, as a starting point. Templates need to reflect the company’s products, sites, organisation, flows and risks. A procedure describing a check that never happens creates a gap between the documented system and reality. Before approval, verify that forms can be used, responsibilities are assigned and staff can handle a practical example. Purchasing a template does not amount to certification.

What is the difference between FSA and FRA?

FSA concerns feed safety. FRA concerns responsibility claims and requirements for specified products or markets. They should not be confused: a certificate or claim under one module does not automatically demonstrate compliance under the other. If a customer needs both, the project should identify the documents, products, claims and records needed for each scope separately.

Does consulting guarantee a certificate?

No. Belevo provides consulting, training and internal audits. Certification assessment and the certification decision belong to a certification body competent for the requested scope. Our role is to clarify requirements, identify gaps, support implementation and review evidence. Certification timing, outcome and conditions depend on the independent body’s process and the business’s actual situation.

FAMI-QS

Are all additives automatically eligible for FAMI-QS?

No. Product and process need to be assessed against the scheme’s scope. Function, intended use and manufacturing route are essential. Before preparing the system, collect technical specifications, composition, a process flow and regulatory information. If uncertainty remains, seek FAMI-QS evaluation through its official route instead of assuming eligibility is already established.

What is needed for an initial audit?

An implemented system is needed, with a defined scope, competent people and representative records. Preparation includes applicable scheme documents, the application route, selection of the certification body and evidence readiness. A practical check follows a batch from raw material to release, reviewing purchasing, production, testing, deviations and destination. A manual alone does not demonstrate implementation.

Can a trader apply for FAMI-QS?

Trade is among the activities covered, provided products are eligible and the scope is correctly defined. Review responsibility for storage, transport, labelling, repacking and release. Outsourced activities need selection and control criteria. Not processing a product does not remove the need to understand it and manage suppliers, complaints and traceability.

How does HACCP connect with quality management?

HACCP assesses safety hazards; quality control also checks agreed characteristics and specifications. They share data, responsibilities and deviation management but are not synonyms. For each parameter, clarify the purpose of the control, the basis for its limit, the test method and release authority. This prevents an acceptable commercial result from concealing a safety problem.

Are separate fraud and defence assessments useful?

Their purposes differ and should remain identifiable. Fraud concerns vulnerability to deception for economic benefit; defence concerns intentional threats to a product or process. Some controls, such as access control and supplier approval, may overlap. Scenarios, motivations and prioritisation still need to reflect applicable documents and the business context.

Is Belevo training an official FAMI-QS course?

Belevo training is independent and tailored to a business’s needs. It is not presented as an official scheme course or as a substitute for any mandatory training. Before agreeing the programme, check whether particular roles or application stages require specific training recognised by FAMI-QS. Belevo training can support practical implementation, internal auditing and understanding of evidence.

QS

Are QS and GMP+ always interchangeable?

No. Any mutual recognition is subject to conditions and limits depending on activities, products and current documents. Before promising a delivery, check supplier eligibility, certified scope and customer requirements. Our assessment compares the real situation with applicable conditions rather than relying only on the scheme name on a certificate.

How is a monitoring plan defined?

Identify products, origins, volumes, hazards and applicable scheme provisions. Then define sampling, parameters, frequencies, laboratories and evaluation responsibilities. Include treatment of unrepresentative samples and unusual results. Frequencies should not be copied from another business without checking that the risk and participation conditions are comparable.

Can a business outside Germany participate?

The assessment depends on scope and applicable participation conditions rather than the website language or customer location alone. Before starting, we review supply-chain requirements and the available route for the operator. The system must also comply with legislation where the company operates and in the product’s destination markets.

Does outsourced transport need checking?

Yes. Outsourcing does not make the risk disappear. Define service approval criteria, responsibilities, product information and transport-document controls. Compartment suitability, previous loads and cleaning are especially relevant for bulk loads. The controls should reflect the company’s actual role and the requirements applicable to arranged transport.

Which records are reviewed during an audit?

The sample may include purchasing, specifications, suppliers, receipt, production, controls, testing, storage and delivery. Training, maintenance, complaints, internal audits and corrective actions are relevant too. The objective is to connect each requirement with concrete, consistent evidence. A simulation following a real batch is therefore often more useful than checking a manual’s table of contents alone.

Does training include practical exercises?

The programme can include delivery-document reviews, supplier checks, interpretation of test results and handling a deviation. Examples are selected for the products and roles involved. Before training, we agree the audience and objectives so exercises fit quality, purchasing, logistics or production. The final check assesses understanding of tasks rather than attendance alone.

EFISC-GTP

Which activities does EFISC-GTP distinguish?

The scheme provides documents for industrial processing and for collection, trade, storage and transport. Selection should reflect actual operations and site products. Before defining the project, check the relevant code, certification rules and sector documents. The declared scope should match contracts, facilities and responsibilities, including outsourced activities.

Are sector documents only examples?

Applicable sector documents form part of the system’s reference framework. They help identify specific processes and hazards but must be compared with the actual site. The business assessment should include plant variations, inputs, processing aids and destinations. An audit should be able to establish why a hazard was considered significant and how it is controlled.

Is it suitable for grain and oilseed businesses?

It may be an option for activities and ingredients within the relevant scope. Assess the route by distinguishing collection, storage, trade and industrial processing. Commodity sector alone is insufficient: identify actual operations and customer-required claims. The initial review also establishes which sector documentation applies.

How are industrial by-products controlled?

Document origin, process, composition, intended use and storage conditions. Also check legal classification and relevant safety requirements. Controls should address process variability and possible contaminant transfer. When a batch falls outside assessed conditions, a documented decision is needed before it enters the feed supply chain.

Can it be integrated with an existing system?

Yes, while avoiding unnecessary duplication. Compare existing procedures with applicable requirements and check that purchasing, HACCP, document control, audits and management review cover the required scope. An existing certification does not automatically demonstrate every EFISC-GTP requirement. A comparison matrix should show coverage, gaps and responsibility for updates.

What does a gap analysis deliver?

A report stating the assessed scope, reference documents, evidence reviewed, gaps and priorities. Each proposed action identifies the expected result, owner and closure criteria. The report distinguishes documentation issues from implementation problems. This helps plan work before the independent audit and verify that corrections are actually applied.
